The Vuelta de Espana Tour of Spain 2007 passes close by our base at Cortijo Sierra Castril on the 15th and 16th September 2007. Click on the map to see our location.
We are taking advantage of this by offering a fully guided holiday with two days spectating stages 14 ( Puerto Lumbreras - Villacarrillo (Parque Natural Sierra de Cazorla) and 15 ( Villacarrillo - Granada ) as well as riding some sections of them.
Both these stages ride through some of the best and most unspoilt parts of Southern Spain, taking in climbs up to 1600m in altitude,
The itinerary of this holiday is flexible, you can take a full week and explore the superb road cycling in the area or take a short break to get some miles in whilst viewing some of the tour.
ITINERARY
Monday 10th September
Arrive and transfer to accommodation Cortijo Sierra Castril
. Local ride in the afternoon and visit to Castril.
Tuesday 11th September
Circuit of the Rio Castril 45 miles of contrasting scenery on quiet roads. Click here for more details.
In the evening an opportunity to walk under the unique vulture cliffs above Castril
Wednesday 12th September
Vuelta de Cazorla. Between 40 and 65 miles depending on the starting point. Fantastic mountain roads and fantastic scenery. Click here for more details
In the evening a trip to Hotel El Mano to sample some of the best Tapas in the area.
Thursday 13th September
Circuit around the monutain of La Sagra. Up to 65 miles. 5 Star cycling, close to where stage 14 of the Vuelta will pass. Click here for more details of the route.
In the evening an opportunity to visit the local lake.
Friday 14th September
An easier ride of around 40 miles to the south of Castril into the desert area of the ' Bad Lands'. Not as hill but some great fast roads. Click here for more details
Saturday 15th September
A shuttle to Huescar, then up to Puerta Pinar to watch the Vuelta pass. It is then possible to ride back to Cortijo Sierra castril via Puerta La Losa (1800m)
Sunday 16th September
View the start of stage 15
of the Vuelta in Cazorla. We then will ride up the the later part of Stage 14 through the incredible area around Horno to Santiago de Espada. Spectacular cycling in great mountains.
Monday 17th September
Transfer to the airport.
