Spain is well known for it's festivals and fiestas and this area is no different with frequent fiestas happening in and around Castril.

Moors and Christian Festivals

April

In April the near by towns of Cullar and Benamaurel hold festivals to commemorate the rich Moor and Christian culture of the area.For 3 days the towns have shows in the streets, flamenco competitions and fairs for children. On the Saturday night there is an impressive procession of local people dressed in fantastic Moor and Christian costumes, followed by an enactment of the overthrow of the moors. After this everyone goes home gets changed and then has a big party in the town which will last right trough the night until mid Sunday morning.

Festival Sete Sois Sete Luas

11 Ausust -14 August in Castril

Festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas started in 1993 and it is now a project promoted by a Cultural Network of about 30 towns from seven different countries: Cape Verde, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain. Sete Sóis Sete Luas, in 2005 is celebrating its 13th edition, develops its projects mainly in the area of popular music, ethnic and traditional, of the theatre of road, of the plastic limbs, always involving important personalities of European and Mediterranean culture. As a high-profile cultural event, the festival promotes performing arts - theatre, fado and popular music - together with cinema, literature, fine arts and the exchange of different cultures developed along the Mediterranean coast. The festival has a highly decentralised cultural policy, in the conviction that quality cultural initiatives and national premieres do not necessarily have to be limited to the big cities.
The Honorary Presidents of the Festival are the Portuguese writer José Saramago (Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998) and the Italian actor Dario Fo (Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997). The Festival already twice won the "Kaleidoscope Prize" from European Commission, for the high European dimension and cultural quality of the project, and three time the "Culture2000 Program".www.7sois7luas.com

Patron Day Festival

1st to 2nd Sunday in October

In honour of virgen Rosario and Santo Cristo Del Consuelo.

This festival concludes in the final 3 days with Encierros de Castril, running with the bulls. Local casualty stay busy over these three days.
